Italian giants AS Roma are said to be interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
This is according to reports emanating from the Italian media with II Tempo first reporting that there is some sort of reluctance on the path of Arsenal in letting the midfielder leave the club as they’d prefer a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Reports emerging today however indicate some progress from an AS Roma perspective as according to Corriere dello Sport Roma via Sport Witness, the club from Italy’s capital have reached an ‘economic agreement’ with Maitland-Niles at €2.5 million per year.
According to the report, AS Roma are now working on agreeing a fee with Arsenal and the Serie A side are ready to offer €10 million but that’s short of Arsenal’s asking price which stands at around €15 million.
Furthermore, the deal is said to include an upfront fee of €750k with the move becoming permanent after about eight to 10 games are played.
Maitland-Niles spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom and he’s failed to establish a spot in Arsenal’s first xi this season. Hence, a move in January is very much on the cards and AS Roma’s interest is definitely one to keep an eye on.
