Arsenal set to receive windfall after £142m World Cup boost revealed

The Gunners are likely to see a large number of players representing their countries at the tournament in Qatar

Arsenal are set to receive compensation from FIFA for having players at the 2022 World Cup. The World Cup Benefits Program of FIFA see clubs receive £6,460-per-day for every player released for the winter tournament in Qatar.

A total of $209 million (£142m) will be distributed among the clubs releasing players to the participating teams in the 2022 World Cup.

The amount that each club receives depend on how many players are at the tournament and how far they progress.

According to FIFA, ‘a share is then passed on to the club with which the player was registered in the two years prior to one day after the elimination of his representative team.

A vast amount of Mikel Arteta’s current squad will hope to do enough between now and the winter to book their own places to Qatar. Some already have their places all but confirmed with their performances for both the Gunners and their respective national teams over the past year, whilst others have a little bit more work to do to be able to say they will be on the plane.

The Gunners’ World Cup party could be set to improve with some signings. One confirmed arrival that looks set to be at the tournament is Matt Turner, the American international set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this summer. Any further deals for experienced international operators will only serve to bolster that number even further.
