Arsenal sent scouts to watch New Brazilian Martinelli despite Man City interest

Brazilian outlet UOL report that Manchester City haven’t yet closed a deal for Savinho of Atletico Mineiro, and Arsenal are hoping to disrupt the deal and sign the player themselves.

The Gunners are reportedly looking for a way to present a more interesting offer, both in terms of the finances and the player’s career prospects.

City have already made their bid, offering €6.5m plus €6m in potential bonuses and proposing a subsequent loan move to PSV.

Arsenal would likely need to match the financial offer to convince Atletico Mineiro whilst coming up with a similar loan pathway to win over Savinho himself.

Mikel Arteta’s side at least have the advantage of being able to point to their consistent record of giving youth players opportunities for genuine first-team integration.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that City were leading the race, adding that Arsenal were one of the clubs who had made contact over the potential signing.

Red Bull Bragantino have also already had an offer of R$30m (£4m) rejected.

Despite his age, Savio is already up to more than 20 appearances for Atletico Mineiro’s senior side. That’s no mean feat, considering how well the team have been playing over the last year.

Savio’s side won the 2021 Brazilian league title, the Copa do Brasil, and the Campeonato Mineiro, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores – only exiting the competition on away goals.
