Arsenal ready to start their weekend clash with their best summer signing as he’s now injury free alongside three more first team players

Ace set to make his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt this evening (Wednesday). Vieira is set to feature for the Gunners’ under-21 side against Swansea’s under-23s.

The Portugal ace is set to be joined in the team by fellow first-team stars Emile Smith Rowe and Cedric Soares. Smith Rowe made a brief appearance off the bench in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Leicester last Saturday.

Cedric was an unused substitute in the first Premier League game of the season at Crystal Palace but was left out of the match day squad against the Foxes. The right-back featured regularly in pre-season but the Evening Standard says he will be given minutes this evening.

And for Vieira it will be the first time he has pulled on an Arsenal shirt in a game environment. The 22-year-old joined from Porto in June for a fee of around £34million.

However, a fracture to his foot, which he suffered while on international duty with Portugal under-21s shortly before signing, has so far prevented him from any action. Vieira travelled on the club’s pre-season tour to the USA in July but was restricted to limited training.

Arteta said: “That’s a question mark that’s very difficult to respond to right now. It might take him now time to get there, depending on who he’s playing with and how the game goes – it could take him no time to adapt.

What I can tell you is that he’s doing everything he can to make that process really short.” Vieira an play in a variety of positions across the front three and in midfield.

And Arteta says it is down to the player to find his best role. He added: “That’s something the player is going to tell us.

“We are already trying him in different positions in training, and he’s played on the left, right, as a false nine and an attacking midfielder, so it’s good. He doesn’t want to be locked in any one position, because he’s so used to it, and that’s a really positive thing for us.”
