Arsenal news: Gunners join Liverpool in transfer fight as Mikel Arteta fires Premier League shot

All of the latest Arsenal news on Friday morning including updates on Fabio Carvalho, Mikel Arteta and Takehiro Tomiyasu

Despite having been defeated by Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, it does not appear that Arsenal’s battles with the Reds are quite over yet. According to Calcio Mercato, the Gunners are eyeing a move for Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho, who is out of contract at the end of the current season.

He was thought to be on the verge of a switch to Anfield at the end of the January transfer window, only to see a move fall through. He ended up staying at Craven Cottage, where he has continued to play a role in the London side’s promotion push.

Sticking with Liverpool and Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta has been left unhappy with his side’s fixture congestion in the aftermath of Wednesday’s defeat. The Spaniard was particularly furious with the scheduling of upcoming clashes against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arteta said: “Thank you so much to the Premier League to do that. And they’ve done it again for when we have to play Chelsea and Manchester United. So if they want to give them any advantage I say today, thank you so much for doing that.”

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been handed a fresh injury blow as he continues his recovery from a number of troublesome calf issues. The defender has not appeared in the Premier League since January with suggestions that he could potentially return by the end of this month.

He is now also set to miss out on key World Cup qualifiers with his nation having been left out of Japan’s latest squad for the upcoming international break. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to play this weekend against Aston Villa but the early signs do not look overwhelmingly positive.
