Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan if recent reports are to be believed.
The Gunners are set for a busy summer transfer window and have been linked with a move for Gundogan’s teammates in the form of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. football.londonunderstands that Jesus is one of the names on the club’s shortlist whilst technical director Edu has also held talks with the player’s representatives.
Marcelo Pettinati, the agent of the Brazilian international, even admitted that his client is interested in Arsenal’s project. “We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing,” Pettinati told transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
“There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel – he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see.” Now, the aforementioned Romano has reported that Mikel Arteta and Co are keen on signing City midfielder Gundogan.
His tweet read: “Talks ongoing between Gundogan agents and Manchester City board. No discussion about new deal – just about his future with serious chances to leave the club.
“His trip to Madrid was not linked to his future. Barca, German clubs and Arsenal [depends on UCL] interested.”
Whilst the Gunners don’t look likely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a move for Gundogan could make sense considering the lack of experience in the current Arsenal squad and the German international has made it no secret of his admiration for manager Arteta.
“I’ve had a great relationship with him and was really sad when he left us,” revealed Gundogan earlier this year. “He had a very difficult start at Arsenal, but I was always sure that sooner or later, he will be successful there.
“I think top four would be a huge success for the club. They’ve played really well against us.”
