It was certainly a case or normal service resuming for Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
Following back-to-back defeats on the road against Manchester United and Everton, the Gunners returned to winning ways at home by recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton.
Alexandre Lacazette, captain for the day in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s absence, was back on the scoresheet, Martin Odegaard made it three goals in three appearances and there was even a second goal of the season for central defender .
And it’s the Brazilian’s goal from a corner that has garnered some chatter from Arsenal supporters on Reddit as set-piece coach Nicolas Jover has been hailed once again.
The Frenchman has been described as somewhat of an unsung hero for the north London outfit this season with the side somewhat transformed at set-pieces at both ends of the pitch.
In what was a busy summer transfer window for the Gunners’ – as they signed six players to boost the first-team squad – manager Mikel Arteta ‘s decision to make an addition to his backroom staff is looking like an inspired piece of business.
At the beginning of July, Jover arrived at the Emirates Stadium after leaving Premier League rivals Manchester City when his contract expired at the end of June.
As a result, Jover took over from Andreas Georgson – who headed back to his native Sweden with Malmo after spending one season with the Gunners – as a set-piece specialist – a similar role he held at the Etihad Stadium.
And it’s safe to say Jover’s impact has been immediate.
Thanks to @Orbinho – Head of Opta Data Editorial – the Gunners have now scored the joint-most goals from corners in the Premier League this season with six.
It would appear that Arteta was well aware of that record as Arsenal fans spotted him hugging Jover after Gabriel nodded home Gabriel Martinelli’s cross to make it 3-0.
