Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already told Edu why he should sanction transfer for £16m target

Mikel Arteta’s time at Arsenal has been full of ups and downs.

The Spaniard clinched a record 14th FA Cup with the Gunners just over 14 months ago but has also overseen back-to-back eighth-placed finishes in the Premier League, a record that means they are currently without European football for the first time in 25 years.

Now, the north London club sit 11th in the current league standings, having recorded ten points from their last four fixtures after enduring an abysmal start that saw them lose their opening three fixtures – failing to score a single goal in the process.

Arteta could look into the transfer market in January to strengthen his side’s bid for a top-six finish and the former Manchester City assistant coach has been linked with a number of midfielders given Granit Xhaka is likely to be out until the new year following the nasty knee injury he sustained against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur last month.

The Sun have claimed that Arsenal are plotting a surprise move for Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who spent six years at the Emirates Stadium before joining Jurgen Klopp’s side back in the summer of 2017.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is valued at £16.2million on transfermarkt, played alongside Arteta under former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and the Spaniard has previously made it no secret of his admiration for the England international.
