Arsenal and Tottenham handed major transfer blow as Martinez makes surprise choice

Arsenal and Tottenham have been dealt a big setback in their chases of Lautaro Martinez, who has signed a new contract with Inter Milan.
The Argentine striker was linked with a summer move to north London, with Spurs appearing as a possible destination after a proposal for his services was accepted.

However, after Chelsea swooped for Romelu Lukaku, negotiations stagnated, and Martinez remained an Inter Milan player until the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal, meanwhile, was said to be interested in the 24-year-old forward as they looked to improve their forward options following the uncertainty around the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners, like their north London rivals, were unable to complete a deal for Martinez.
With the striker having signed a new contract at the San Siro, a deal appears to be much more difficult. The Serie A winners made an official declaration confirming that he had committed his future to the club until the summer of 2026, with subsequent rumors claiming that his existing salaries had been increased, and that a release clause had been removed from the contract.
