Former England star John Barnes has encouraged Chelsea linked Tammy Abraham to make a move to join Mikel Arteta at Arsenal
Abraham, who joined Chelsea aged seven, netted 30 goals in 82 games for Chelsea at first-team level and was top scorer in his two full seasons in the academy.
However, After the club decided to make a move and bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club he quickly fell down the pecking order and barely got any minutes under Thomas Tuchel – which ultimately meant that a move to Roma was going to happen
But he has taken the Italian League by storm this season and already has 23-goals to his name after impressing under boss Jose Mourinho. But he has admitted that he is now open to the idea of a move back to London
But amid the speculation that Chelsea are very much interested in bringing him back to the Premier League, Barnes has opened up and told Arsenal that they should make a move to try and sign the young man.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new striker this summer as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in January and Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both on their way out.
‘It all depends on how Chelsea want to play next season,’ Barnes told BonusCode Bets. ‘Roma obviously suits Abraham better, that’s why he’s scored so many goals.
‘You have to find the football that suits you. The fact that he’s scored goals doesn’t mean he’s going to come back and score goals for Chelsea. Tuchel won’t want to play both Abraham and Lukaku.
‘If Abraham wants to come back to England and it’s not going to work at Chelsea, Arsenal would be a fantastic club for him.
‘They need a centre forward – Lacazette looks like he’s going, Aubameyang’s not there and Nketiah may not be the answer.
‘If Abraham wants to come back to London, it would be a good move for him and a good move for Arsenal.”
