SUV Flies Off I-45 in La Marque Crash That Killed Young Mom, Injured 4 Kids

Police in La Marque are investigating a fatal crash that occurred when an SUV reportedly flew off the Gulf Freeway and landed on the feeder road below.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, a crash occurred on I-45 near FM 1765, resulting in the dispatch of multiple ambulances to the scene.

As per the police, it is believed that multiple passengers, if not all, were thrown out of the SUV during the collision. Mersaydez Jenkins, a 26-year-old woman, was driving her SUV down the Gulf Freeway when she collided with the center wall.

According to investigators, the SUV veered off the freeway after the driver attempted to overcorrect.

According to reports, Jenkins was ejected from the SUV and tragically passed away at the scene. Four children, aged 7, 6, and two 3-year-olds, were seriously injured and transported to UTMB Health by ambulance in critical condition.

According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, two individuals’ conditions were upgraded to guarded on Wednesday.

The cause of the fatal crash has not been disclosed by officials, however, they did confirm that no other cars were implicated in the incident.

According to investigators, it is believed that Jenkins was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to losing control and colliding with the center wall.

Residents of La Marque, some of whom have lived in the area for decades, have expressed their increasing worries about the section of I-45 where the accident occurred.
