Samantha Kalinchuk Identified as Homicide Victim Found in Mabton

Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice has identified the victim found dead near Mabton in late April as 17-year-old Samantha Kalinchuk from Spokane.

According to Chief Deputy Yakima County Coroner Marshall Slight, an autopsy revealed that Kalinchuk died from a single gunshot wound to the head and had been dead for at least a day before her body was discovered.

The body was found near a house in the 600 block of Farm Road, about 2 miles east of Mabton, after sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on April 30. Kalinchuk’s death marks the first homicide in the Mabton area and one of 15 homicides in Yakima County this year.
