Rutherford County detective killed in crash while off-duty identified as Jacob Beu

A detective’s death in a fatal crash on Sunday has left members of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in mourning.
Off-duty Detective Jacob Beu was found critically injured at a wreck on Armstrong Valley Road, as reported by officials who responded to the scene. The individual was transported to Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford, where they ultimately passed away.

According to Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, Detective Beu was a highly regarded member of the Narcotics Division. The individual expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased sheriff.

According to reports, deputies were called to the scene of a crash where they discovered Beu in critical condition. Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford was the location where he passed away.

According to authorities, Beu was a deputy at the sheriff’s office with prior experience who was recently promoted to the position of patrol corporal in 2021. He was then promoted to the role of narcotics detective in 2022.

According to reports, Beu was a member of the SWAT Team and was recognized along with the rest of the team as Officer of the Month in August 2021. The team was commended for their response to the destructive floods that occurred in Waverly and Humphreys County.

According to the sheriff’s office, Beu was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 2018 for his multiple arrests of intoxicated drivers.

According to officials, Beu’s service in the United States Marine Corps was in addition to his career in law enforcement.
Authorities have reported that funeral services are currently pending.
