Jose Perez Fong Identified As Patient/ Victim Of Assault In Scripps Mercy Hospital

Chula Vista Police Department received notification from Scripps Mercy hospital staff on Friday, April 21st, 2023, that a patient who was undergoing medical treatment had passed away.

59-year-old Jose Perez Fong of San Diego has been identified as the patient/victim. According to sources, Perez Fong has been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit for injuries sustained during an assault that took place on April 15th, 2023 at Papagayos Grill and Cantina in Chula Vista, specifically at 2220 Otay Lakes Road.

According to sources close to the investigation, authorities have discovered that Perez Fong was assaulted while on the crowded dance floor for unknown reasons, based on information and evidence gathered during the initial stages of the investigation.

The suspect responsible for the death of Jose Perez Fong has been identified as Bernabe Bahena Rivera (38). According to reports, the Chula Vista Police Department is currently seeking Rivera. According to sources, Rivera has connections to Chula Vista, San Diego, and Mexico.
