A member of a violent Chicago street gang has been convicted of murder and attempted murder as part of a racketeering conspiracy.
Mardi Lane, 34, was a known “shooter” and member of the LAFA street gang, which violently controlled territory in the Chicago neighborhood of Jeffery Manor.
In 2015, the jury determined that Lane participated personally in a homicide and multiple attempted murders.
In the course of a multi-district investigation, twenty other defendants have been convicted.

During their investigation, law enforcement officials seized 34 firearms, a machete and sheath, approximately one kilogram of cocaine, seventy-eight pounds of marijuana, more than $190,000 in suspected illicit cash proceeds, designer clothing valued at more than $300,000, Rolex watches, and numerous pieces of jewelry, including two necklaces with 14-karat gold pendants bearing the initials “LAFA” written in diamonds.
