Steven Swanton Identified As Man convicted In Old Forge Murder Will Get New Trial
In breaking news, a Rochester resident who was found guilty of murder for fatally shooting a retired firefighter in Old Forge last year is set to receive a fresh trial.
In a unanimous ruling, the New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has overturned Steven Swanton’s conviction. The decision was made due to the judge’s failure to instruct the jury on the defense of justification.
According to sources, Swanton’s attorney has the option to file for bail, which, if approved, would result in Swanton’s release until the next trial.
According to reports, Swanton has been found guilty of shooting and killing Scott Krempler, a 50-year-old resident of Putnam County.
The incident occurred during a dispute over Labor Day Weekend at Swanton’s vacation home on Dan Bar Acres Road. In Oriskany, a shooting incident occurred where William Robertello, aged 55, was shot but fortunately survived.
Swanton was sentenced to 45 years to life in prison in December 2021.
