Authorities identify James R. Rodgers, Jr. as victim of fatal Northwest District Neighborhood Shooting in April

After a gunshot in the neighborhood of the Northwest District, one person died and another was hurt.

Officers from the Central Precinct responded to a complaint of a shooting at Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest Irving Street on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:23 p.m. Officers discovered a guy and a female victim who were both hurt when they arrived. Officers started doing CPR and trauma first aid on the individual because it looked that his injuries were life threatening. When EMS came, paramedics made extra life-saving efforts, but the guy passed away on the spot. The injured woman was taken by EMS to the hospital with what are not thought to be life-threatening wounds.

Before the police came, the suspect or suspects fled the scene, and no one has been taken into custody.

James R. Rodgers, Jr., 55, was the victim of the shooting in the Northwest District Neighborhood on April 28. His passing has been reported to his family. According to the medical examiner, he was shot to death in a homicide.

After receiving treatment, the female victim was discharged from the hospital.
