
Archie Mays Charged In Connection Of Shooting Two On Beale Street
The individual who was charged by the Memphis Police in connection to the shooting of two people on Beale Street last Sunday afternoon has been released from jail on a bond of $150,000.
Archie Mays, aged 32, was reported to have posted bond on Wednesday, May 3, as per court records. According to official reports, Mays has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. According to sources, the individual in question is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 2nd.
According to MPD, a shooting incident was reported at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in the 200 block of Beale Street, specifically in front of Alfred’s. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Two men were discovered shot and subsequently transported to Regional One Hospital.
Their conditions were reported as non-critical. According to reports, Mays was allegedly handcuffed by Beale Street security upon the arrival of authorities.
As per the police affidavit, it has been reported that one of the victims has informed the investigators that Mays had poured a drink on his cart, which resulted in damaging the merchandise. According to the affidavit, the victim reported to the officers that he pushed Mays in an attempt to protect his property.
However, Mays allegedly responded by drawing a firearm and shooting the victim. According to the affidavit, the man sustained a grazing wound to his head.
According to the affidavit, a bystander who was not involved in the incident informed the police that he heard a single shot before a bullet penetrated his right hand and then went through to his left hand.
As per the affidavit, investigators have examined a video that allegedly depicts Mays and his girlfriend approaching a souvenir cart. The footage reportedly shows the vendor pushing Mays, which then led to a physical altercation between Mays, his girlfriend, and the vendor.
According to investigators, a video recording captured Mays retrieving a firearm from his pants and proceeding to sprint towards the vendor. The vendor then fell to the ground as Mays aimed the gun at him.
In response to the shooting incident that occurred on Beale Street today, Alfred’s has issued a statement expressing their shock and dismay. According to a statement made by the management of Alfred’s, it has been confirmed that no shooting incident occurred within the premises of the establishment.
The management has also assured that they are fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigation.
