
On April 22, the lifeless body of Amanda Smith, a 12-year-old resident of Aishalton in Region Nine (Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo), was discovered in her yard.
On Friday, Hezron Smith, the father of the girl, confirmed her death.
According to a statement made to the News Room, Amanda and her four siblings were reportedly left alone at home for a short period of time on the evening of April 22. According to reports, Amanda’s disappearance was discovered by one of her two brothers who went to the washroom and noticed that she was no longer present.
He went in search of her and ultimately discovered her lying still on her back in the yard.
It was later revealed that Amanda’s uncle, a 17-year-old boy who resides approximately 100 meters away from the Smiths, was present at the house on the night in question, according to the family.
The details of the incident remain unclear, however, it is believed that the girl’s uncle was involved in causing harm to her. According to the child’s father, he admitted to taking her body outside the yard and fleeing the scene.
On Tuesday, the uncle was apprehended and is currently in police custody at the Lethem Police Station.
On Tuesday, an autopsy was performed on the girl’s body revealing that she had sustained multiple fractures in her chest, neck, jaw, face, and skull.
An official report on the death has not been issued by the Police Force.
