A horrific late-night collision in Jericho that left two adolescent boys dead and two others hospitalized was allegedly caused by an alcoholic driver who was driving the wrong way.
Early on Wednesday night, shortly before 10:30 p.m., the accident occurred on North Broadway. According to Nassau County police, Amandeep Singh, 34, struck the sedan carrying the four teenagers while driving south in the northbound lanes of a highway in a Dodge Ram.
While the other two boys, ages 16 and 17, were hospitalized with internal injuries, two boys, both 14, died at the scene. The two dead boys were indeed pupils at Roslyn Middle School, according to a statement the principal issued to parents on Thursday morning.
At least one of the two boys who perished was a brilliant tennis player on the local high school’s varsity squad despite only being in middle school. He was highly regarded and ranked on the national level. The four boys in the automobile appeared to be returning home after supper to celebrate their tennis competition triumph.
The boys’ automobile struck another vehicle carrying a woman, 49, and a 16-year-old kid after being struck by the pickup truck. Following treatment, they were freed.
Singh, the pickup’s driver, is expected to be arraigned on Thursday on counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and assault.
