On Wednesday, a woman from Urbana was arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the face.
19-year-old Nikya Humbles, residing in the 2000 block of Vawter Street, has been taken into custody and booked into the Champaign County Jail at approximately 1 p.m.
According to Urbana police Lieutenant Mike Cervantes, a dispute occurred between Humbles and her 36-year-old boyfriend in the apartment they shared at approximately 11:30 a.m.
According to Cervantes, a kitchen knife was used to stab him in the face from a butcher block. The authorities were able to recover the knife after a search of the residence that was authorized by the court.
According to Cervantes, the man was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital. However, at the time of reporting, Cervantes was unaware of the man’s condition, except to note that his injury was described as serious.
According to Cervantes, following the stabbing incident, the perpetrator exited the premises and a passerby in the apartment complex parking lot alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, Humbles was nowhere to be found. However, authorities were able to establish communication with her and successfully convinced her to return to the scene for questioning.
According to Cervantes, the individual in question provided a statement and was subsequently arrested. However, Cervantes did not disclose any potential motive for the attack.
Humbles has been placed on second chance probation following a guilty plea for a battery that took place on April 11, 2022, in Champaign. The probation was granted on March 24.
