The man killed in this morning’s homicide has been identified by the Springfield Police Department.
Early this morning, a man with a gunshot wound in his chest was discovered by officers in the backyard of a North National Avenue home, as reported by the SPD. According to reports, he succumbed to his injuries at a later time.
Jimmie E. Johnson III, 42, of Springfield, was identified as the victim.

Reporting from Springfield, Missouri, On the morning of May 3, a shooting occurred in a backyard in Springfield resulting in the death of a man.
According to a spokesperson from the Springfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of North National Avenue, close to the intersection of Turner Street, at approximately 1:55 a.m. today in response to a report of shots being fired.
Upon arrival, a man was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to a medical facility, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
